How did Enloe's executives pull this off?

Some of us at Enloe may be wondering if our fair institution is making enough 'profit' to afford to raise our workers up to the Industry Standards our brethren hospital workers in Red Bluff and Redding now enjoy.

If you go to our mother website enloemedicine.org (Medicine for Mismanagement) [see link above] you'll notice on the home or front page, on the left is a column of links to sections of the website. The fifth bullet down is titled "Enloe Executive Pay." Click on that link and you'll be taken to a multi-page section of the site.

On the top page of this section, under FINANCIAL you'll see – for the last several years available – the total "Profit/(Loss*) our Enloe was able to make. Don't ask me (yet) if all these profits were legitimate for a 'non-profit' to make. I believe the government puts a cap on the amount of profit a non-profit can make in a year.

Then if you go down to the next two pages you'll see the compensation paid to our senior executives: Phil Wolfe, Christine Sarrico, Dan Neumeister, and so on. None of us want to see our executives not compensated fairly. Now remember, these are the same executives who made all those bad decisions: buying out Chico Community Hospital to get rid of competition, selling (cheaply) our large Bruce Road property where we should have put the expansion, squeezing our present expansion into a neighborhood that knew there would be problems – both present and in the future, spending millions on fighting our nurses' union and then our UHW union, outsourcing our housekeepers and our dietary workers, getting rid of the beloved anesthesiologist group after being warned by our surgeons of probable problems, and on and on. OK, let's continue...

Go down to page 4 and you'll see a comparison of the compensation of our chief executives to those of a couple of hospitals of similar size. One has to wonder what 'market survey' our Board of Trustees used to decide on the compensation for our executives! Perhaps you are now saying to yourselves, "Are our senior executives being overpaid?" I don't think our senior executives would request a pay cut so their employees might be better compensated with the savings, if that's where you were going with that question. But...who knows.

So there's money. The question is whether or not it's being spent wisely, and also FAIRLY. I, for one, would LOVE to see Enloe's financial 'books'. That would be interesting reading.

* You'll see a loss in one year [2002] when Medicare changed its payments, and many hospitals took a hit.

Just saw the stats. on Enloe
senior management and I had one question. How does administration at 304 bed hospital make so much more than their counterparts at Santa Rosa with 365 beds and Eden Medical Center with 356 beds. I'm guessing it must be the remote location of Enloe in the far north country. Got to pay top dollar for those big city execs. Why can't our board see it clear to do the same for it's staff. Small town, small price for workers. Looks like Enloe made 32,792,933 profit. Did they put it in their staff raises; probably not, momey for admin or expansion. We can make them through some of it our way next week on 2-15-08 when we bargain wages, insurance and the other eco. stuff.

OOPs that was 32,792,933 profit from 03 to 06; still a lot of cash after expenses.

If you ask me, the main problem is Enloe's Board of Trustees. They are the ones who hired incompetent CEOs. The first was the Wolfeman; the second was Hatchetman Dan; the third was Layoff O'Brien. The jury is still out on PollyAnna Debi, who still has not resolved problems concerning her staff, problems that could have been resolved within the first or second month of her tenure, except, it seems, money is STILL more important than the welfare of her employees. If she gives up some of her compensation for the good of her hospital and workers, then I'll truly know she's the saint some claim she is. But I personally think Enloe will keep going through incompetent CEOs because its Board of Trustees is made up of some incompetents. Change the Board of Trustees!

From your mouth to their ears. I have always thought that those on our board are driven by self interests. What does go on at those board meeting. I have guarded optimism about her and what she wants to do. She has herself and Mike from Shady Grove and now I hear that someone else is showing; guess you want to surround yourself with those you know. But, the rest of the upper administrators are the same old group who harassed and fired and drove off their staff. We still are out earned by the Greater Metropolitan area of Red Bluff; Red Bluff, what's up with that. And now I see that our top brass earn twice what their counterparts at large hospitals earn. As I've told others; the cash is there for them, why not a fair wage for their hard working staff. Sure she brought back the laid off UHW workers but only because we made it clear with a strike that we would not stand for it. What about the old guard admin. who should have been canned but were given an amnesty by Deb Yancer. We will see next week at bargaining when the service department negotiates wages, insurance and other economic issues. Then we'll see where she stands on Industry Standards for wages, staffing, benefits, insuance and employee concerns. She is just another CEO that may come and go to me right. She has to prove her worth to me and as of yet that's up in the air. In one of her letters to us she said that we have work harder because what has happened with the state and Medicare/medical certification. Staff does all they can for the patient in spite of staff problems and she wants us to do more. She need to push her more for positive change for the one who care and work for the patients. Hope she will. But I babble. Hope I made some sense.

The problem with the Enloe Board of Trustees includes the physicians sitting on it. Several were closely allied with Dan Neumeister (Matthews, Lobsoky) and continue his machinations that continue to destroy the hospital.

Until the other members of the board recognize this and sweep Neumesiters complete team out, the hsoptial will not be able to heal.
